Red Hair Color

Dying your hair red will be one of the boldest moves you ever make. When you chose your red hair color there are tons of things you want to keep in mind. Understand what color your hair is. Pick the color that best compliments your skin tone or a color that is within two shades of your current hair color.

To tell what kind of skin tone you have look at the color of your eyes.

Golden Browns, Greens, and Green-Blue: Tend to be warm tones.

Gray Blue, Gray Brown: Tend to be cool tones.

Warm Skin Tone: Golden, bronzy reds will look great

Cool Skin Tone: Darker purple reds will look great.

When you pick a red hair color make sure it is within 2 shades of your current color! If you want a dark red hair color but you have light blond hair forget about it. This doesn’t mean you can’t eventually have a dark red hair color but you have to build the color. This means start within two shades of your natural color and then go another shade darker and then another etc. If you get color at a beauty supply store you can sometimes get salon hair color. It will be a little more expensive but the quality and selection will be worth it.

Red Hair Color Maintained:

The closer your desired red hair color is to your natural color the less you will have to touch it up. Anyone who has ever dyed their hair red knows that this color is high maintenance. Roots show after 4 weeks and if your red is not close to your natural color this can be extremely obvious.

Red hair color fades very fast. After two washes there is a dramtic difference in color. One way to keep your vibrant red alive is to add the dye to your shampoo. Make another bottle of shampoo you keep in your shower. ¼ red hair color and ¾ shampoo. This mixture will act as a glaze. Wash your hair like you normally would with this glaze but let it sit for 3-4 min. Thoroughly wash the color out, condition as usual and watch your vibrant red return. This should be done no more than once every two weeks.

Eyebrows!

Red hair color should be close to you natural color because your eyebrows will give your dye job away. If you ever look at a natural red head you see that their eyebrows are very light. Lightening your brows is an easy way to look like a natural redhead. Always have your hairstylist tint your eyebrows.
